Frostbite (Last Call #5) Page 4

“Would you like that?” His lips brushed her ear as he took the lube from her. “Do you know what this does? Heightens everything. Are you sure you’re ready for it?”

She wasn’t sure of anything but the need twisting her. “I want it. Want you.”

He left the toy buried in her body and pressed a hand to her back, pushing her down to raise her ass higher. Liquid dripped over her ass, cool compared to the bath’s water, but it heated her skin wherever it touched, coaxing pleasurable tingles to the surface. Cain massaged it over her, his finger breaching the tight ring of muscles and bringing slick bliss with it.

Her body clenched tight, but she forced herself to relax. “That stuff is just not right.”

More of it trickled over her skin, and he chuckled. “Does that mean you want me to stop?”

“Fuck, no.” She was buzzing, alive with pleasure. “Deeper.”

His amused chuckle bled into a groan as he worked her slowly, preparing her with gentle care and enough of that magical liquid to make her lightheaded, dizzy. It felt like the rush that followed a sound spanking, that dreamy flood of endorphins but without the pain.

Her legs shook, and she tried to steady her breathing. “Tell me what you see.”

“The woman who’s going to melt me,” came the answer, a whisper across her skin as the slippery metal, warmed by her body, pressed against her ass.

Hard, huge, but the dreamy buzz had left her floating, relaxed. She took the plug, shivering as it stretched her. “Admit it,” she murmured. “You just want to see me in the collar.”

“My captive Siren who sings for me?” He pushed her hair aside and slipped one end of the metal circle around her throat. “Maybe you should never come to my apartment, Kelsey. Maybe I’d keep you there, like this.”

Maybe I’d stay. She would have said it too, except that he fastened the collar with a click and the next beat of her heart pulsed through her whole body. She cried out, shuddered. Begged. “Hurry, please—”

For the first time that night, he didn’t make her wait. He groaned, his chest vibrating against her back, and thrust into her.

Full, so full, every bit of her stretched tight and aching. Kelsey squeezed her eyes shut and panted for breath. “I’d let you,” she babbled helplessly. “Anything you want.”

Hot breath skated over wet skin. He licked her earlobe and groaned. “No promises now. I can feel you, tight and hot. Shaking right apart. Not fair to ask for promises.”

None of it was fair, and it didn’t matter. He could melt, and she could scream as loud as she wanted. The night was one big fantasy, them included, and the thing that shoved her in a headlong rush toward orgasm was the possibility of another smile, a spontaneous kiss on the corner of her mouth.

A guttural growl escaped him as his hips snapped forward. “That’s right,” he rasped, his voice cracking like too-thin ice on a pond. “Come all over me. Let me feel it.”

Christ, a little more of that and she wouldn’t just be coming, she’d be unconscious. “Gods, right there. Fuck.”

His teeth closed on her shoulder, rough and possessive, and his next thrust seemed unsteady. Wild, as out of control as his hungry, helpless growls.

Kelsey opened her eyes. Her gaze found the mirror on the opposite wall, but she barely recognized either of them. Her skin was flushed, her wet hair tangled and dripping. But Cain—

  Cain.

Not frozen anymore, not even melted. He was burning, muscles and tendons standing out in stark relief as he hurtled toward release. It sent a bolt of longing through her, one that collided with a gentle pulse from the toy in her ass and one hard, desperate thrust of his cock.

  Oh. Oh.

Tension swirled tighter, held her in its grip for one agonizing second before exploding, taking her along with it. She screamed and remembered thinking she shouldn’t, or maybe it didn’t matter. Soundproofing, surely all the rooms had it, or else her cries would have already brought people running...

Swells, swells of absolute fucking ecstasy, one of the few words her muddled, useless brain could evoke, along with Cain and yes.

  Yes, yes, yes.

He drove into her one last time and froze there, his face caught in an expression of slack relief. Her name rasped out of him, low, loving, and he rocked against her again with a shudder. “You’re coming so sweet on my cock that I could fuck myself hard again and do it all over.”

She could barely move, much less come again. “Have a little mercy,” she managed to whisper.

“On us both.” He dropped his head to her shoulder and exhaled slowly. “Are you all right?”

“No.” She had no bones left, and no control of her own body. “Get me out of here before I drown.”

He did, leaving the enchanted accessories behind as he wrapped her in a towel and shrugged into a robe. In the other room, he tumbled them both onto the bed with an utter lack of respect for what their tangled, wet hair would do to the sinfully expensive pillow cases.

When they were settled together, he stroked a hand over her back and kissed her forehead. “Better?”

“Better.” A tragic understatement. “No promises is probably a good idea, but fuck it. The rules don’t apply to us, right?”

“Prudence would dictate we exchange some information before we move in together. I’m sure in a day or two I’ll be feeling prudent again, unless we repeat this adventure. In which case I suppose it doesn’t matter.”

Kelsey propped her head up on one arm. “Who said anything about moving in together? You’re hot and I like you, and that dictates that I at least get your number.”

His large hand tightened on her hip. “It seems more civilized than me luring you into my lair and keeping you there with chains and orgasms.”

A lock of hair had fallen over his forehead, and she smoothed it back. “I think I like you for more than your orgasms, awesome as they are.”

“Even knowing what I do?” His voice sobered slightly. “Most women don’t want to date death.”

Easy for her to dismiss, but it was a very real concern, especially for Cain. “You know the one thing all my years have taught me? The importance of balance. You help keep that balance. People are born, so others have to die. It’s the way life works.”

“Except for people like us,” he said quietly.

The tone—dejected and hesitant—made her chest ache. “What are you worried about, Cain? Honestly?”

“This is the first time—” He cleared his throat. “Your magic lets me feel for a little while. I find myself more reluctant to give that up than I could have imagined.”

She wasn’t exactly eager to go back to a life of desperate, fumbling sexual encounters—in fact, the thought made her shake her head before she even realized what she was doing. “I know what you mean. How you feel.”

He rolled, pressing his mouth to her ear. “Come home with me. I promise not to fuck you all the time.”

The first frisson of doubt tickled an uneasy line up her spine. “My voice. Is that...everything?”

But Cain laughed. “Your voice only lets me feel. It doesn’t make me feel good.”

  “It gets you off.”

“So does my hand. I’m not talking about physical sensation, Kelsey. I’m not numb. My body feels. It’s the rest of me that’s usually cold.”

“Right.” Her cheeks heated, and she covered her face. “I’m used to thinking of my effect on people in terms of sex, that’s all.”

Cain tugged her hand away and tilted her head back, forcing her to meet his dark, serious eyes. “I could come here for sex every night if that was all I wanted. Your voice counteracts my magic, but you and all of your odd, charming contradictions? That’s what intrigues me.”

The tense, cold knot in the pit of her stomach began to unravel. “You can’t fuck me all the time. I have a job, you know. My patients will miss me.”

“Patients?” His so-serious face melted into a frown. “You’re a doctor?”

A veterinarian.” Kelsey laughed and touched one corner of his mouth. “Turns out, animals don’t care if you’re a Siren.”

He blinked before laughing. “No, I imagine they wouldn’t.”

“I have to deal with people too, of course. But the charm I told you about draws its power from my energy. It has to, or it’d burn out too quickly. So too much or too fast...” There was no way she could describe the exhaustion.

Cain pulled her to his chest. “You don’t need it with me.”

No, with him she could be herself, and she didn’t have to worry about losing control of the situation. She had no control already, and nothing terrible had happened. To him, nothing could. And if that had been the extent of her attraction to him, she would have walked away. It wouldn’t be fair to him, same as if he’d only been interested in the magical effects of her voice.

But something more drew her to him—his sensitivity, his intensity, the flashes of humor under his grave façade. So Kelsey stretched out and nestled her head on his shoulder. “One rule. I’m not going to your company Christmas party.”

He laughed, his chest rumbling under her hand, and he sounded anything but frozen. “Deal.”
